The Design area of the factory is where your designer and their team of engineers work hard to improve the race car. Here you can research new parts and work on the weight and reliability of your car.

Design status

This section gives and overview of your car and details on your Designer.

Designer

At the beginning of the game you will have a randomly assigned Designer to lead the car development. Their skill reflects the number of R&D points you will receive each race as well affecting the points needed to acquire new components for the car. You can gain additional R&D points by hiring more engineers.

Designer contracts can not be extended. When the number of races on your Designer’s contract is 17 (length of one full season) or less you will have to go to the Designers Market and hire a new one. If you fail to sign a new Designer by the end of the season you will be given a random Designer with a salary of one million dollars per race for the following season.

Designer skills

Your designer's primary skill is innovation. Innovation affects the number of R&D points you will receive to develop your new parts. You can add additional R&D points by hiring up to 25 engineers to complete your Design team.

Your designer also has varying degrees of ability in different areas of the car. These areas are broken into aerodynamics, power train, chassis, and systems. The designer skill value for each represents affects the R&D points needed for new designs and testing. The parts of the car effected by each test are outlined below:

R&D Points

Between each race you can use R&D points to improve the components of the car.

Weight and Reliability

The design weight reflects the overall weight of your car. (Currently without supplier weights) It is based on the current supplier revisions, the driver and miscellaneous parts (which are always 100 kg), and the design team's current car. Because of this, your actual current race car's weight may vary depending on the parts fitted.

The minimum weight your car can be for a race is 600 kg without fuel. If your car is any lighter it will be ballasted up to 600 kg for the race.
