Resources

The drivers, as well as designers and commerce directors, are hired through a global market where every player in F1TIME can bid on any driver they choose. With such a system it is important to understand how the market works and find a driver that best suits your needs.

You can begin bidding on new drivers in the final season of your current driver's contract unless you choose to start a new contract immediately and break your current contract.

If you don't want to risk losing your driver on the open market you can extend their contract for an additional year instead.

Market times

The markets are scheduled to run at 18:05 server time on Wednesdays and Sundays during the race season. Markets will not run after a season ends and all current negotiations will be null and void. If you need to sign a new driver do not leave it too late in the season or you may find yourself with a random driver next season.

Market overview

There are a two key steps to successfully signing a new driver.

Initial bid

The initial bid must meet or exceed the driver's demands. If the offer is one of the top five received by the driver it will move in to the negotiating phase after the market runs.

Driver bids that are in the initial phase are represented by a hollow star.

Negotiating phase

In the negotiating phase there can be up to five managers looking to sign the driver. Additionally other managers can place initial bids, but the driver will only reject all negotiating bids if five or more initial offers are better than the top bid in negotiations. When the next market runs the driver will make a decision and either sign the best offer or reject the current offers and begin negotiations with the five higher bidders.

During this phase the manager can increase their bid on a driver by resubmitting a higher one, however, resubmitting a lower offer will take the offer back to initial status.

Driver bids that are in the negotiating phase are represented by a gold star.

Bidding process

Search

The first thing you need to do is find drivers you are interested in. Using the driver search you can find drivers who meet the criteria you are looking for, whether it be a cost range, skill requirements, or a combination of factors. Once you have set your criteria you will be shown a list of up to 50 drivers that meet your requirements.

Pressing submit without altering the default search fields will bring up the 50 drivers with the highest DRPs.

It is important to consider your current financial situation and league when choosing a driver. Everyone wants the best driver, but it may not make sense to pay for a top driver while trying to find your way in Class 3 or 4.

Search results

Having submitted your search you will have a list of drivers to choose from. Along with a listing of all their skills to help you decide who to bid on there is additional information:
  • Salary - The driver's minimum asking price per race.
  • Bid - Selecting bid will take you to the driver's page to make an offer.
  • # - The number of managers currently bidding on this driver.
  • Add - This will add the driver to your watch list.

Making an offer

When you have chosen a driver you would like to place an offer on you click the 'bid' link or the driver's name. This will take you to the driver's page where you can make your initial offer. There are a number of criteria you need to submit to make an offer:
  • Salary per race - The amount you will pay the driver each race.
  • Win bonus - A bonus paid to the driver for winning a race.
  • Point bonus - A bonus paid to the driver per point. This bonus is not paid if a driver wins.
  • Length - The contract length from one to three seasons.
  • Team goal - The desired goal you are promising the driver you will meet. Failing to meet this goal can cause a driver to lose motivation.
  • Start contract immediately - If you wish to fire your current driver and break their contract you can use this option.

You can make as many initial offers on drivers as you wish. Once you enter the negotiating phase you can only remain in talks with five drivers so it is important to rank your choices.

Start contract immediately

This option allows you to break your current driver contract at any point and hire a new driver. The driver you are hiring must not be currently signed to any manager. Breaking a contract with your driver will cost you three times the current drivers race salary as penalty for breaking the contract.

Once you have signed a driver, using the start contract immediately option, they will not race for you until after the current race. This is to avoid practicing with one driver and then racing with another. Furthermore, the remainder of the current season will be counted as the first year of the contract with the arriving driver.

Offer list

Having made offers on the drivers you wish to negotiate with they will appear in your offer list. The list will show your top ranked driver choices. You will need to select 'View all' and ensure all of your bids are valid and ranked.

Ranking your offers

The full offer list quickly tells you which drivers are ranked and which are not. Under the rank column the drivers should be numbered from 1 to n and coloured green. If the number beside a driver is 100 then they are not ranked and the driver will talk to you after all other offers. Using the up and down arrows beside the ranking arrange your choices from first to last and press save ranking.

If any of the numbers for an offer are red the offer will be rejected. Ensure all numbers are green.

Watch list

When you select 'Add' from the search results that driver is added to your watch list. This allows you to keep an eye on drivers you may be interested in.
