To find out where you will start the race you need to qualify. Before starting qualifying, you must select a dry tyre compound for the race and choose the amount of fuel in the car at race start. Once you hit submit this can not be changed so take your time and devise a race strategy before you begin.
Choosing tyres and fuel
You can only choose between the 3 dry tyre compounds. During the qualifying and the race, and including the start, you can pick intermediates or wets at any time as well as the dry compound you have selected. So don't be worried if your race is in the wet and your qualifying is on a dry track.
| Once you submit your tyres and fuel load for qualifying you can no longer drive any practice or warm up laps and you can not repair your car. |
You can add anywhere from 30 L to 150 L of fuel into the car for the start of the race. The tank will not allow you to add more than 150 L at any one time, though it can hold more than 150 L in total.
Qualification laps
Each manager may drive up to four qualifying laps. You will get full setup feedback for each lap just as you did in practice and warm up. After each lap, the amount of fuel in the car is reduced by the amount used in that lap. Before the race, that amount of fuel will be put back into the car so you start the race with the amount of fuel entered at the start of your qualifying session.
When you qualify you need to check, double check and triple check your DRP and setup values match the ones you wish to use from practice and warm up. The values will be the last lap you did in warm up and may not be the ones you want to use. You only have 4 chances at pole so don't forget to turn up the revs and go for it! A word of caution though; your driver is very hard on the car in qualifying so keep an eye on the car condition. You should also take a look at arrows at the Race Weekend page, because during qualification your wing setup might be a bit off compared to the values found during practise. This effect is called trimming of the wings.
The qualifying results determine the starting grid for the race. Once you have completed qualifying, you will be entered to drive in the race, however, you should submit race orders as well or you will not make it to the end of the race.
| You should not wait until last second before the race driving qualifying laps, in the last 6 hours before the race, your driver may perform worse due to the increasing time pressure. The closer to the deadline, the more prone to mistakes they become. You may also miss the race if your connection to F1TIME is not available at the last moment before offices close. |
