Strategic elements

Resources

At the beginning of each season you must decide on your engine, gearbox and tyre suppliers for the entire season, so choose wisely. Each supplier has its own strengths and weaknesses so the one you choose will depend on your personal needs, goals and budget. In F1TIME suppliers can refer to the three types of components provided, the engine, gearbox, and tyres, as well as referring to the companies that provide this equipment.

At the beginning of a season you will not see other manager’s supplier choices until after the first race is run.
The suppliers will expect to be paid for every race that you enter, but you will not be charged for races you miss. (Though staff must still be paid)

Supplier variables

General

There are certain variable that are common to all three types of suppliers:

  • R&D - Represented by stars Image:S 6.gif, the R&D (research and development) rating indicates how large the gains will be from testing. Higher R&D suppliers will make larger gains during testing than those with less stars.
  • Revisions left - During the season you may only upgrade your supplier parts if you have revisions left to use. More revisions allow for more frequent upgrades. The number of revisions remaining will change on your test page as you upgrade the parts, but not on the supplier page which will always display the initial number of revisions.
  • Weight - This is the weight of the supplier component. It should be noted the tyres are 20 kg each for a total of 80 kg added to your car.
  • Cost per race - The amount you will pay after each race for using the component.

Engines

  • Power - The horse power (HP) produced by your engine.
  • Fuel consumption - The amount of fuel consumed by your engine. Higher consumption engines will require more fuel to complete a race and therefore be heavier and take longer to fuel at pit stops.
  • Reliability - Effects the likelihood of your engine failing during the race.

Gearboxes

  • Reliability - Effects the likelihood of your gearbox failing during the race.
  • Gears - The number of gears in your gearbox. More gears will make the car faster. (Currently there is only the option to have 6 gears)
  • Shifting - This represents the shift delay (SD) when changing gears. A lower delay will make the car go faster.

Tyres

  • Optimal temperature - This is the optimal track temperature for the tyres to perform their best. Optimal temperature does not influence tyre wear.
  • Wear - The rate at which tyres will wear out and eventually explode. Lower wear tyres will last longer.
  • Performance - The rating for the overall speed and grip of the tyre in dry conditions.
  • Wet performance - The rating for the overall speed and grip of the tyre in wet conditions.
