Testing

When testing, you can improve your engine, tyres, aerodynamics, or setups. The effectiveness of your test day depends on the track you choose, the weather and the type of the test day.

Cost

The cost of arranging a test day is $500,000 per star, plus you must pay your suppliers 20% of the total cost per race for their parts. Testing laps are free, but you will incur wear on your car. You can not test if any part on your car is less than 1%. The wear incurred on the engine and gearbox during testing will be reset once you complete your first lap of practice.

If your balance is negative, you cannot arrange a test day, but you can continue testing if you have already started one before going negative.

The cost of testing is based on the highest star rating for the track. E.g. You are testing tyres which are 3 stars

, but the track has gearbox efficiency testing at 5 stars

, you would have to pay $2,500,000 plus your suppliers cost for the test.

Testing options

There are five main options you can test, engine, gearbox, tyres, aerodynamics, or a setup and tuning day. With all testing options except setup and tuning, you will automatically drive 50 laps. While a test may improve one aspect of the supplier part, other areas may suffer.

Engine testing

Power - Will raise the engine's horse power (HP) and revs (engine revolutions).
Efficiency - Will lower the weight of the engine and reduce the fuel consumption.
Reliability - Will increase the engine's reliability.

Gearbox testing

Performance - Will lower the gearbox's shift delay (SD), making gear changes faster.
Efficiency - Will lower the weight of the gearbox.
Reliability - Will increase the gearbox's reliability.

Tyre testing

Testing tyres will lower the wear rate of the tyre, making it last longer in the race. You can not change the tyres performance levels or optimal temperature.

Aerodynamics testing

Aerodynamic testing will increase the design level of your aerodynamics, front wing, and rear wing.

Setup and tuning

If you do a setup tune-up test day you can drive up to 50 laps where you have full control to alter the setup and driver orders as if it were a practice session. This is a great way for managers to learn how to do setup and DRP, and experiment with different levels of rain when the opportunity presents itself.

Testing results are effected by your designer's skill for the part you are testing. To see which skills have an effect on each part refer to the Designer page.

Test results, revisions, and upgrading

During your test day, the working revisions of your engine, gearbox, and tyres will improve. All your testing improvement will depend on the R&D of the supplier of each part and the test rating for the track. To utilize these improvements in races, you may choose to upgrade your current engine, gearbox, or tyres to the newest revision. To upgrade to a new revision you click the link that says Upgrade to version 1.x. You may only do this as many times as you have agreed to while signing your supplier's contracts. The new revision will be available immediately after you have upgraded.

You may upgrade your suppliers at any time during the race weekend, but if you upgrade after you have started practice you will not get a fresh engine or gearbox. The part will still have the same wear so it is better to test before you begin practice.

Driver training

When you do a test day, your driver gets trained as well. Which of your driver's skills will improve depends on the type of training you selected on your driver's page.

If you do not see an improvement in the stat you have selected for training it might be that it has reached its maximum level or the increase was not noticeable due to rounding.

Test tracks

There are four random tracks available for testing before each race. Even if your league is racing at one of these tracks in the upcoming race it will still be available to choose from. Tracks will be rotated every two races on Tuesday or Friday at 18:00 server time, depending on the date of the season start, and the weather for the tracks will be randomized.

At the beginning of each season before race one there will be a single 'winter testing' track for all to test on. This track will be Barcelona (all three star ratings) to negate any advantages or disadvantages gained by having random tracks preseason.
